DIY PORTERS LODGE
The Cannington Road site of the school are proud to be involved in the DIY Porter's Lodge initiative, which is a community led street redesign project in the local area, since its beginning. This is a two year initiative delivered by Sustrans in partnership with the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham with the aim of creating a safer and more attractive neighbourhood to live in and move through. The project focusses on the streets and spaces to the south of Porter's Avenue and north of Becontree station, between Parsloes Park and Mayesbrook Park. Before the Becontree estate was built in the 1920's and 1930's, Porter's Lodge farm occupied this area, leading to the resident led naming of this project.
The school site has been at the heart of the design process, providing practical and logistical support including playing host to many community meetings to the children of the school designing the bollards for the project. We have also held and supported many cycling initiatives ranging from parents cycling courses to 'Bling your Bike' competitions to promote healthy and safe travel to and from school.
Sustrans is the charity that's enabling people to travel by foot, bike or public transport for more of the journeys made every day. Their work makes it possible for people to choose healthier, cleaner and cheaper journeys, with better places and spaces to move through and live in.
